ParticipantSomeone has probably already dealt with this but since moving house the dryer function won’t dry. The clothes don’t seem to have been heated at all.
The cold tap is on, which is what the manual says to check. The washing function seems fine. The machine dried fine before we moved it, could the move have broken something or has it not been installed properly?
Thanks

You could check that the cold tap its connected to is in fact the cold tap and not the hot with a blue tap cover on it.
Easiest way is if you put the machine on a rinse cycle and feel the temp of the water entering the dispenser, this should be cold always.Greg

yup, connected the right way round.
Does this sound like something i need to get someone to look at, baring in mind I’m pretty rubbish at things like this. Would rather not hassle someone if it’s simple though

These machines were shockers for breaking the wiring around the heater box and fan motor. Unplug and remove lid to see.

Fairly high incidence of ‘one shot’ stat failures, often caused by the fan motor wiring breaks that P45 mentions.

Sorry to drag this up but I’m having the exact same problem with this washer/dryer. Dryer was fine for years but now it’s just a washer, the dryer function doesn’t dry anymore, just spins and spins. Connections are all fine, it hasn’t been moved but I checked them anyway.
From reading the previous posts one possibility is that there’s an issue with wires breaking around the heater box and fan motor, it sounds like a possibility as it tripped the fuse about a week or so before it stopped working. How easy is that to spot, are the wires outside the box or will I have to check inside the box itself ? And if I do find broken wires can I just stick ’em back together again ?
It’s over 6 years old at this stage, should I just send it to the great resting place in the sky ?May 8, 2009 at 9:11 am #181369philfish

If you take the lid off you should be able to see the wires on the outside of the heater box just connecting to either the heating elements fan or thermostats failing that might be the heating elements on the dryer but you will need a test meter to test that properly! 6 yrs old is not that bad to be fair and they are certainly better then some of the newer machines on the market at the minute imo
power off first!!!!

Cheers Phil, I’ll take a look later of over the weekend. Hopefully it’s just the wires as I don’t have a test meter handy to check the element. I’ll visually check the element anyway as we’ve fairly hard water here so I’m actually surprised it hasn’t given hassle before this.

It is not easy to visually checked the dryer element, you would have to strip down the complete heater box. This would be a complete waste of time if you haven’t first tested the elements. The water does not get anywhere near these elements as they are on top of the machine.
TBH heater element failures on these are not that common, wiring breaks and safety stat failures, often caused by the wiring harness chafing on the front of the motor are far more likely. This could have been the cause of the fuse or circuit breaker going.
Unless the wiring breaks are obvious you will need test equipment to isolate the fault.

Participanterm, has anyone thought to check the thermal fuse with a meter?
