    We have continual problems with our fridge freezer. About once a year the freezer part just seems to stop working. Even though the temperature gauge still says it is -26C it is warm and has defrosted everything, particularly in the top half of the freezer. If we take out the plug and then put it back it will give us the correct temperature which is above freezing. In the past we have unplugged it for a day and this seems to clear the problem temporarily but it is getting us down and we are regularly throwing away loads of spoilt food.

    We approached Samsung who gave us the name of their approved dealer in Guernsey (where we live) but when we phoned them they said they haven’t worked on Samsung for years and there is nobody on the island who will touch them. Their helpful advice was to throw it out and buy a hotpoint! I guess the problem must lie with the temperature sensor, could I buy a new one and swap it over myself? I’ve taken off the cover and unplugged it so I know swapping it would be easy if that might solve the problem. Please help. Thanks.

    PS I just found your Repairs@ service and put in my postcaode and it came up with this reply:

    No service engineer in your area

    We are sorry but at this time we do not have a service engineer listed in your area who can assist you at this time. We have anonymously logged your information in order to improve our coverage for the future.

    PPS I just took off the plastic cover at the bottom of the F/F, near the wheels and found a lot of fluff which was virtually blocking what I took to be some kind of air intake. Could that be the cause of my problems? But I guess that wouldn’t explain why the temp gauge says it is -26C when in fact it is +7C? Still baffled.

    Hi

    the most common fault by the discription that you have given is that either the drain in the freezer may be blocked causing a ice build up which over months willeventually cause the appliance to stop cooling efficiently.
    The other option is the defrost sensor which with the fault description given leads me to my earlier conclusion as if the sensor was faulty then it would be weekly rather than 6-12 months.
    The other most common on frost free appliances is where the freezer or fridge door has not been shut fully for a period of time which will then cause the freezer to stop working,switching off the appliance and restarting after 24hrs does normally cure this fault.

    Thanks Bryan, I am sure it will work if I leave it for 24 hours, but the door hasn’t been left open and the drain hole is not blocked as far as I can see. We have had other fridge-freezers including American style ones and not had this problem. I still think the temperature gauge probe might be at fault and since it is easy to replace I am wondering if you can supply one? I would get an engineer out but it is not an option here.

    Hi

    If you want a temprature sensor then yes I can supply and willing to take your money But I can assure you it will be a waste of time as the temprature sensor will Not be at fault.

    The defrost sensor determines when the appliance comes out of defrost and as the temprature sensor reads -26 which is close to the evaperator which points to the compressor running correctly.
    My earlier conclusion which i would stick by is either the drain or that someone maybe last week even.it doesnt need to be in the past 2 days may not have pushed the drawer in fully or not closed the fridge correctly.

    If you do want me to send a set of sensors then I will be happy to do so but I will have to recommend that a suitably qualified engineer does fit them.

    I hear you Bryan. I suppose its not impossible that the fridge (not the freezer) could have been slightly ajar without us noticing for a while. What I don’t understand is why the temp gauge stays on -26C when the freezer is actually +7C (which it only says once I have interrupted the power supply) & obviously the alarm doesn’t warn us. Surely something is bust? I would happily get an engineer out but nobody will come to us on this godforesaken rock!

    THE -26c IS NOT THE ACTUAL TEMPERATURE READING OF THE FREEZER BUT WHAT YOU HAVE ASKED FOR.

    It shouldn’t be, Bill. When you set the temp it shows the setting briefly but reverts to showing the actual – thats what it should do anyway. Plus there should be an alarm to tell us things are not right but nothing happens, we just go to get something frozen out and find its soggy!

    The dispaly is not real time temps.the only time you will see real time is when you interupt the power.

    The display you tell are quite common with that version of model, but even with the modern days models it can tell you the same info there is only an alarm to tell you that the door is open.No alarm for appliance cooling failure.
