ParticipantHi all
While grovelling around under the washing machine yesterday I found this component – I’m sure it can only be off the machine somewhere as it was actually lying on the frame inside at the bottom, ie hadn’t hit the floor. The machine works fine as far as I can see, and hasn’t been fiddled with since I had a pro round about a year ago (he changed the motor brushes). Any ideas what it is? It’s made of polypropylene, and the pivoting lever (indicated) is on a spring, so it can be rotated 45 degrees in either direction but returns to the midway position when released.
Machine is a Hotpoint Aquarius 800, model WM14
Sorry about the huge picture; it doesn’t want to resize!
Admin Edit Paint Shop Pro, works for me. iadom. 😉

it is part of the door mechanism it sits on the motor and the pivoting piece sits on the shaft so that when u open the door it will roll off the shaft if the machine is rotating you should be unable to open the door without this piece unless he replaced it when doing the brushes or bodged something

My dear fried
The part is what I would call a pecker assembly which hangs from the motor, the sprung lever will move either way depending which way the motor is running and linked to the door opening button, therefore you should not be able to open the door when the motor/tub is turning.

If you can still open the door then whoever the ‘pro’ was has left your machine without a legally required door safety mechanism, unless he has fitted another one. Either get someone else to have a look at it or keep any young children as far away as possible.
PS I liked Bill Ellis’s ‘Friedian’ ( Freudian) slip. It must be the lobster in your nickname that made him address you as ‘my dear fried’ :rotl:
Personally Thermidor is my favourite way to enjoy Lobster. 😆
