Hello, I have an old Whirlpool AWM325 that has served us well, although rather noisily for many a year.

However, despite the noise it has washed well (yes I know – bearings) the current problem with it at he moment is that it does not seem to be emptying, I have had the outlets & pump all stripped down and there are no blockages. It’s more an occasional fault as sometimes it does and sometimes it does not work.

IMO, it’s most likely to be something in the controller switch or it’s associated PCB. Being an EE I’d like to try repair that myself if I can, it’s worth a go before we have to replace it so nothing lost if I cannot get it back together again.

I have service manuals for the 210/857/327/336/650/265/283/450/464/466/467/468/483/1000 and the 1300 and I was wondering if anyone knew if any of these share the same controller as it obviously helps to have a diagram to work from.

    Cheers,
    Matty.

EDIT: It stops just before “A” on the dial.

    Matty,

Take my word on this….the pump is not working as it should…..don’t mess around with wiring diagrams, timers and stuff….but replace the PUMP!!!

Its old, its clapped, its time for a new pump…trust me 😉

OK, but how would I be able to prove that?

I don’t want to replace it without testing it first.

    Are the pumps 240v?

Perhaps I should put my meter on the pump leads & log it to see if it’s getting it’s voltage when it should.

What really puzzles me is why is it that it sometimes works & sometimes does not, if play around turning the controller knob round it will eventually drain?

    Matthew.

The “magnetic” type pump motor used on your machine consists of an armature/impellor unit, running wet inside a plastic housing, with a field coil on the outside. The armature is a cylindrical magnet and eventually wears the plastic housing, causing it to develop lateral movement – this can and will stall the motor. It is usually accompanied by a burring noise not unlike an electric drill on hammer action (but quieter).

To sheck, you need to wiggle the impellor – any noticable side to side movement and the motor unit has to be replaced.

ah, now I’m seeing it better.

Oh yes, there is some lateral movement, approx 1mm movement.

And inside it’s full of soap powder and water.

Thank you for your assistance, I shall now try & source a cheap replacement (I only need it to last a few months till I have finished DIY’ing the bathroom and then its a bosch/miele for me).
