ParticipantHi
My Fisher and Paykel smartdrive 051 washing machine has been playing up recently. When I turned on the machine, I was sometimes having problems with the wrong leds lighting up or sometimes the machine would not start the cycle when I pressed start. I have been able to get around this by turning off the machine, waiting and turning back on.
Now, however the machine is stopping during the first rinse cycle. It pumps out the water and then stops without spinning. If I advance to spin, it will also not spin the clothes out. From reading other postings, I thinks I have managed to get it in diagnostic mode. The leds across the top are 00100 101 with the high and low water level lit and the slow and hold spin buttons lit. I hope I have done this correctly. I would be most grateful for any help. With 3 boys under 6, I need to get this machine sorted or buy a new one quickly.

Water level drop not detected by the electronics. Full of water = no spin (regardless of whether it’s full or not!). With the machine fully empty, remove the airhose to the level sensor and blow back through to clear any water from the hose. If the problem persists, it is likely that the sensor itself has failed. It is part of the motor controller board and will have to be replaced as a unit.
Power off before going in…….

Ellie, looks like you’re in luck. It’s dead easy to do, just 2 screws at the back of the console and it folds forward. The airhose is right there, right hand side, undo the clamp and blow. If that doesn’t fix it and it’s the blue controller box itself, that’s easy to do yourself too (but about $150) – at least you save on the service call. As Penguin45 said, pull the power plug first. And good luck!

While on the phone with F&P just now I got a quote on a new “blue box” of electronics – currently $202 in Oz. They will charge an extra $110 to come & fit it (which you can do yourself, it’s dead easy).
If you need one and if you’re anywhere near Melb and if my 051 isn’t worth repairing, I might have a spare blue box shortly. Lots of ifs, but it would be a shame to throw out a good working blue box!

I opened up the console and blew in the hose got the machine to finally spin out the water bit by bit until it was empty. When it was completely empty, I blew in the hose again and I got it to spin beautifully on the spin cycle.
I thought great, now I will just test the machine with a small load. It got to rinse, pumped out the water and then stopped. I left it on with the led still on rinse and suddenly after about a minute, it started to spin. I thought it had worked but it is still stuck with the rinse led on and the machine is full of suds. It keeps activating the pumping and then spins and sprays again but the machine stays full of suds. There is also some water leaking from underneath the machine. I forgot to mention this previously but i am not sure if it is water just leaking over the bowl or not.Does this mean the sensor has gone?

In an attempt to get all of the water out of the machine from the drama above, I filled the machine again to rinse the clothes and of course I could not get the machine to spin out on the final spin. I eventually turned off the machine at power source and waited 10 min or so. I started machine, advanced to spin and you wouldn’t believe it but it spun out the clothes. This is all very strange.
I,m sure that if I attempted another load though, it would get stuck again.
Any ideas?
