Changes In The Wind

From three different sources over the past couple of months we’ve been informed that some form of government regulation is on its way for this industry. There’s no specifics, I’ve heard from two sources that the ODPM is looking at this industry as well as the DTI and HSE.

It won’t happen too fast, we’re looking at 3-10 years but the general feeling from the Big Smoke seems to be that this will happen sooner rather than later. This is borne out by the general way things are going across various ancilliary bits that kinda slot to what we do and where we’re at.

This is just a vibe based on sounding out various people in various government agencies and departments. There’s no substance, no hard facts, just an intuition from the rhetoric. But like it didn’t to me, I’m guessing this won’t come as a shock to you.

Kevin and others told me this would happen and, whilst I pretty much knew it was almost innevitable, I was hoping we’d be off the radar for a while longer.

What this will be, I don’t know quite honestly. I do know that and can tell you that at every turn I fight our corner, tooth and bloody nail, as do Kevin, Sean and Dave. Even John fights the good fight for us. You may not see it and you may not know it, but these guys support us all way beyond the call of duty.

Also as most of you that know in here us well enough will realise we may have some light at the end of the tunnel here. But if you know that you also will realise that I’m not going to tell you what we’re up to just yet, we’re miles away from being ready to share it just yet. To be perfectly frank, I don’t even know that I personally want to go there. TBH I do enough fighting at the back end that you’ll never see without taking on still more

But…

If there’s enough interest and support we’ll pursue it. If not, we’ll just let it go.

Will it cost money, yes. Sorry, there’s no way to combat what I think is on the way without investment, how much remains to be seen but I’d be fighting, as usual, to keep that as low as humanly possible.

What the costs will be, no clue. It’s that early in the whole thing that I haven’t the foggiest, I don’t even have a full grasp of the mechanisms that we’d have to put in place yet.

What I do know is that if we don’t do it someone else will. Who that somene else is and what they’ll look to charge us, well I’d take a wild guess and say that they’d look at making loadsa cash from us. Why not, everyone else does?

The good news is that we could gain something tangible from it.

My apologies for being so vague but, presently, everything on this score IS very vague and it seems like we’re trying to fight on multiple fronts all at once. With any luck we make a half decent job of it.
