Hi Greg,
Just finished a new kitchen and had a Corgi guy put in the new hob. He taped the non-compression fittings but not the ‘olive’ versions. I know this is ok for plumbing, cos you see the leak if it’s not tight enough (!), but I’m just a tad nervous that he should have used PTFE throughout . .. . .???
Thanks,
Megavolt

You obviously checked before you allowed him to start work, that he had got a current corgi card if he did I woundn’t worry.

If you are worried about the authenticity of said engineer a quick look on the corgi website will uncover whether he is legit, good point wvm

Hmm, guess I can be too trusting at times – said he’d left it ‘in his other wallet’. Didn’t check out on websites either . . .
Reckon I need to get it checked out properly for insurance purposes.
Can I use the hob in the meantime, what with all this PTFE / non-PTFE thing? Seems to be working ok.
Cheers!

As a corgi engineer I would say no. If there is an isolator gas tap to gas appliance/s he has fitted turn them to the off position and look for corgi engineer in links above I gave, just to make sure all well and dandy.

Hi
As a corgi engineer also,I wouldnt use PTFE tape as if the joints are correct on compression then there would be no need.
Unlike water you cannot see gas.
Using PTFE can cause more agro on gaswork than it cures in my opinion esspecially on olives.

if ptfe tape IS used, it should only be the gold gas version, and only ever on the tapered thread fittings, not compression fittings.

ParticipantRe: The use of PTFE Tape
Compression fittings utilising an olive do not require PTFE tape due to the fact that the olive performs the seal between the pipe and the pipe fitting. This is the true for both gas and water fittings.
Gas approved PTFE tape should be used on all threaded fittings along with jointing compound.
Hope this helps.
