    model F 40850 911 232 63200 its about 2 year old.
Not heating. weve been out and checked the element and stat which was ok and both arms were turning. PCB in door looks ok. Any ideas?

Take another look at the PCB. Where the relay is soldered onto the board is the likely place.

Do NOT be tempted to re-solder. A new board will be needed, and on some of them there are modified mains terminal connections which have to be adhered to.

why should the dry joint not be soldered,we have had many successful repairs doing just that!

    Re: AEG DW not heating

The joint on the board interface melts due to local heat transmitted from the relay iteself. Rather like a fuse melting in fact. Not designed that way, but if the soldered spot a repairer adds is too big, the whole board itelf may fail in a big way, and cause a knock on effect. In essence the contacts on the relay are not holding, therefore transmitting heat down the tails of the relay itself.

Soldering is not a fix, all it does is remove the breakdown point briefly.

Bit like changing a 5 amp fuse for a 13, the level of protection is somewhat compromised.

what about changing the relay, I’m sure CPC will stock a suitable replacement.

Would be very interested to know what the ‘knock on effect’ is other than requiring a new board. Have you seen evidence of other damage caused by the ‘blob of solder’ fix to anything other than the board itself Alex?

    Jim.

Changing the relay on the board makes sense, provided the properties & specification is the same.

Regards the “blob of solder”. Yes; and where it has lead to peripheral heat damage, they have had a repair carried out by someone before we get involved.
