Why not type WD420 or 440 into the search facility and find out 😉 http://tinyurl.com/z3mzw
Indesit electronics which are over complicated and prone to error.
Ask instead for better alternatives and Don amongst others will advise you. 🙂

Well if my first answer hasn’t given you a clue then enter Indesit or Ariston in the search facility and stand well back. 😥
They all share components, mainly the controls.August 7, 2006 at 7:39 pm #184398anthony16

woo i see what u mean about electronics prone to failure. i was wondering what other good reliable washer dryers are availaable for around £300-£350 i know there are zanussi but the ones i have seen only have 2.5kg drying load and thats what attracted me to the hotpoints with there 5kg drying load. cheers if anyone has any advice

You will just about get a reasonable washing machine on that budget, you will not get a decent washer/dryer for that money.

how much do you think a decent washer dryer would be and what would you recommend? cheers

Don’s your man for that sort of advice regarding prices etc. He usually pops in most mornings so he will no doubt answer your call then. To be perfectly honest most of the trade do not like washer/dryers, they are a compromise at best, with higher failure rates and poorer performance when compared with separate units. The one and only advantage is space saving.

Hi Anthony
Stay with a washing machine only, they have better energy efficiency and are less prone to failure than a washer dryer. If space is at a premium take a look at a compact tumble dryer. As far as makes and models are concerned Bosch are worth considering the WAE24162 1200 spin, 6kg capacity and a two year guarantee price around the £290 mark. A compact tumble dryer like a Hotpoint will set you back around £130. Price for price the seperate machines are about the same price as the WD420/440 but you have better flexibility ie you can be washing and drying at the same time 😉
Other brands worth a look at IMO would be Whirlpool, AEG, and the Miele at the premium end of the range, they will last and last and come with a minimum of a two year guarantee up to a max ten year depending on price paid. Prices start from circa £550.

Don cheers for the advice i can now see it would be better to get a separate washing machine and dryer, there are some zanussi machines on offer at currys that look good. i have already got a compact hotpoint dryer i was just thinking of getting one of the hotpoint washer dryers as they can wash and dry 5kg and the compact dryer is 3kg but the zanussi machines on currys all have faster spins of 1400 or 1600 compared to the 1200 spin hotpoint washer we have right now so that would probably speed up drying times.

Yep seen those but would still go with the Bosch 😉

Problem is though how long will it take and how much will it cost compared to the compact. The water consumption on the Hotpoint washer dryer when using the drying cycle is 100 litres of water per 5kg 8O. If you are on a water meter the your`e water bill will rocket if several loads are dried weekly. Bear in mind to that you can only be washing or drying at any one time.

Personally I would look at the Bosch WAE28162GB 1400 spin for not much more 😉 and you will still pay less than the WD420/40.
A washer dryer is fine in certain circumstances such as flats for one or where there is no garden to hang out washing, however in a family enviroment where there is space for two machines albeit a smaller version I always recommend two seperate appliances.
Hope this helps the decison making 🙂

I’ve had a WD440 since May 05 with no problems although it does not get full family size use by me.
Recently had a problem were the machine wouldn’t complete certain programs, according to the rude engineer the EPROM was corrupted at least the repair was Gteed for 12 months and I should think so at £90.
If it goes wrong again I’m buying a Miele may cost a lot more but they provide a free 10 year gtee on some of their products.
