ParticipantHello all, just bought a new element for my Crusader tumble dryer from the makers but the wires are different to the original. As an extra twist I binned the original about 4 weeks ago so cannot compare directly. The main issue I have is the original had blue and black wires and the new one does not. I wrote what colour wire goes onto which connector on the dryers thermostats (located above the element) but they don’t match the new colours??? Also the wires on the new element seem to have different connectors so I can’t just “find the socket that fits” not that I would cos I don’t want to go bang! Does anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram for this machine so I can sort it??? Tried the makers but they say “its a comet only machine”, comet say “can charge you for an engineer to visit”. After buying the element myself to save money i don’t really want to have to get an engineer out if it’s only to connect a few wires up
Thanks in advance

You should have recieved part number 1701897, if not it’s the wrong one 😉
There are two heater types for this model which is why Clyde was asking for the serial number and part number 😀

Checked all the packaging it came in but no part number. All I know that its a 230v, 2200w (200w less than on the model sticker on the rear of the dryer). I had to give the serial number to the makers when ordering so I’m assuming it’s the correct one. It has the 4 elements, top 2 are joined on the RHS, the bottom 2 also on the RHS. On the LHS top 1 has brown wire that goes to flat spade connector, 2nd and 3rd are joined together then orange wire to a spade socket connector, bottom one blue wire also a spade socket connector (picture available) I know this info is far from what you requested but it’s all I have and your help is appreciated. The LH thermostat on the dryer itself had a black wire and an orange wire previously, the RH thermostat had a brown wire then a blue connecting to it previously.
and I thought it was going to be soooo simple to save some money buying th part myslef. Doh!!August 12, 2006 at 12:01 pm #184794clyde

Cheers Clyde, just got the new part from makers. Still some discrepancies though?? Do you have an address I can send a picture too?? If not I can try and explain, starting from the twin connector on the new element. It has a black and blue wire. The black goes to a single spade socket connector with the brown wire from the element and connects to the RH thermostat. The long blue wire which goes to the other terminal on the RH thermostat goes to some sort of switch on the back panel (think it’s to switch between the 2 heat settings). That only leaves me with 2 orange wires??? One from the 3rd element coil and the other goes to the timer on the front of the dryer. They have the right connectors to connect to both terminals onthe LH thermostat but the wires from the original were black and orange. In my very simplified world of elecronics it looks ok it’s jjust the color issue? My brother in-law say they may have been “harmonised” whatever that means
