A good little triac to have handy is the 0.8A Z0107MA. This is a T0-92 package so dead easy to change. These are used on many modules (such as Hoover / Candy ‘core’ boards) to drive pump, valves & interlock. and often blow when the driven device goes down.

They are easy to obtain from Connect, Seme etc for about 35p each. A similar device to be found is the Z0607MA which can be substituted with the Z0107MA as they are both 5 mA gate sensitivity. This is important as these are usually driven directly by the microcontroller through a sm resistor. Sometimes these resistors blow too but being sm they are a bit more difficult to change (easy with a hot air tip on a gas iron).

Saves having to obtain another board and makes the job much cheaper and therefore more attractive to the customer.

    Andy 😀

P.S. They should also work in place of the MAC97A8 which is often found on Merloni modules (although never needed to try one).

Cheers Andy, I will be getting some in then. By the way, I found the advice on obtaining pcb relays from CPC – for the Indesit modules very useful, and have also used them a few times on zanussi dishwasher cards.
    All the best
