ParticipantHas anyone had problems with a doormat sold through Focus DIY stores that claims to be machine washable?
http://www.focusdiy.co.uk/invt/575446
It is made by a company called “Primeur”
It claims on the label that it can be washed in a washing machine at 40C.
It is 50 X 80cm and has a hard rubber (latex) backing.
In my opinion it is definitely NOT machine washable and has damaged my customer’s machine. Door seal torn to shreds and drum distorted.
He wants me to give him a report to the effect that it is responsible for the damage to his machine. I am happy to state my opinion but I doubt if my word will have much clout with his claim for damages.
Any thoughts?

Hi,
I have got one of these and wash it quite happily in my 17 year old Hitachi (AKA Servis Quartz) at 40 on a slow spin.Might be a problem with todays tinfoil drums but fine in mine.

I would expect most engineers to say a bulky item like that runs the risk of causing problems. I would advise anyone insisting on washing one to not allow a spin, which would help. I’d have thought that these days many washing machines would struggle to balance it anyway and refuse to spin, but older machines would carry on regardless. Are there any caveats to the machine washable claims in small print somewhere?

They are sold everywhere and most carpet companies sell them (I have 2) Brilliant doormats and wash easily in most machines, although 2 mats is the minimum load* to avoid out of balance problems. Washing a single mat is a definite no no unless you can chuck in the dog towels with it 😉
They come in all sizes by the way up to 8 feet by 4 feet….!!!! 😯

Yes, I was wondering if somewhere in small print it said do not wash on its own or similar?

It actually says the opposite.
“Wash separately by hand or in a washing machine at a maximum temperature of 40C.
Line dry or flat dry only.
This product must not be tumble dried. Please ensure the mat and the floor are both absolutely dry before laying the mat on the floor”.
