Hi. I have a Hotpoint BF162 integrated dishwasher. It’s just over 2 years old. When started the machine operates for around 20 secs then stops. The 2nd light from left flashes as an error message. I’ve taken the machine out. I see the water beginning to fill briefly, as normal, then the sump is pumped out as normal. The machine then stops. Any ideas??. Hotpoint want £90 to fix it.

Led 2 flashing indicates a fill valve problem. Make sure the tap has not been accidentally turned off, that inlet hose is not kinked. After that I’m afraid its open up and testing time. Could be a faulty inlet valve, if so a local independant should be much cheaper than Hotpoint. Check the link in my sig to see if we have someone who can help.

Thanks, Jim. Inlet valve is working. The reservoir on LHS is filling up and water goes through softener after that though it’s pump out the sump then shut off time. Could the high water sensor be faulty? Any idea where it is on this model? What looks like a salt cellar with a hex washer is beside the salt reservoir in side the machine. I assume that’s it.

Lets be honest here, its not a Hotpoint, its an Indesit 😥 Often the error messages are no more than a guide. A solenoid valve can fail intermittantly, an internal break in the very fine wire in the coil can break down after a few seconds of use, but work again for a short while after it has cooled down again. A solenoid valve is not that expensive.

There is no ‘high water sensor’ there is an anti flood device which syphons water into the base, this triggers a float switch which energises the drain pump and flashes error code 1.
If you tilt the machine to either side or backwards and water runs out from underneath then it has either leaked or overflowed into the base.

    Jim.
