    Hi folks,

I have a Miele WT945 washer dryer that has recently stopped working with the rinses LED flashing to indicate a fault. The handbook says to contact Miele service. I’ve searched this forum and can’t find anything specific to this fault.

At first the dryer stopped working, but the machine would wash. Now it doesn’t wash or dry. When washing, it fills and then when you’d expect the drum to move there’s a click and the rinses light flashes. After a while it then drains. When auto drying it starts up and rinses through what I assume is the condensor (top right rear of machine) and then stops again. Timed drying doesn’t start at all. In all cases the rinses light flashes.

When I first looked inside the motor in the top right rear corner was stuck and a quick turn by hand unstuck it and did the trick. It is now spinning very freely when the machine starts up but the fault occurs later – I assume when the drum would normally start to turn.

Perhaps co-incidentally the machine was working fine, being used probably every day for the last 8 years until we went away on holiday and it obviously started to miss us 😉

    Thanks

Sorry to reply to my own post, but I just gave the brushes in the drum motor a bit of a wiggle and this seems to have done the trick. I guess then that they are worn and need replacing. I have noticed a bit more noise from the motor when it is going in the reverse direction recently. Is there anywhere I can buy a set and a how-to on replacing them? I couldn’t see whether I’d need to take the motor out or not and the plastic bit on the end of the motor that attaches to the brushes is held in by more than the four screws on the end.

spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to supply suitable brushes for you. The end frame of the motor will indeed come away allowing easy access.

If the brushes are right down, stop using the machine as you run the risk of the armature cooking itself and you really don’t want to know the price of a new motor………

    Power off, of course.

Won’t or shouldn’t happen on a Miele, they incorporate a spring loaded plastic peg which runs through the centre of each brush which shoots out pushing the brush away from the commutator when app a quarter of the brush is left; therefore not allowing the brush to wear down to the bone as it were, and cause damage.

Thanks for the help guys. I got the plastic end of the motor last night with a little more brute force (there are four spade connectors that are very tight) and one of the brushes is worn right down. I’ve ordered a new pair from Miele. Fingers crossed that this will do the trick.

This isn’t the case on the WT945. One brush has worn down to 3mm, whereas the other has ~20mm left on it. There worn brush was still the right shape though, so fingers crossed that it hasn’t done any harm and just stopped making contact.

I stand corrected 😳 only certain models use that type of brush 😕 after further investigation.
