Thanks for the the help given so far. Ichecked the heater element yesterday and it read 30ohms cold. Across the element I get 230v mains during heating, and to prove things to last degree the element draws 7.2A.
Which is about 7.5kw. So the engineer in me said that the damm thing can’t be O/C, but there are two other thinner cables that run from the heater to the control panel. I think this must be some form of temperature sensing. I get 10kohm across these with the leads disconnected. My other half says that we should scrap the thing and get a washer made in Germany, where they know how to make things (like BMW’s).Any other advice would be appreciated, jerry111.

Have you actually timed this machine? A 60° wash will take 2hrs 20 mins or possibly even longer. If it was still on a 60°wash over 3 hours after starting it then you may have a problem. The two small wires are indeed to the NTC. This will not stop the heater working at first but if faulty could cause errors that would in fact shorten the programme.
Heater consumption 1800W @240V. Resistance 30Ω + or – 2Ω. Internal thermal fuse cuts out at 144° this is a ‘one shot’ device and will not reset
One of the biggest complaints we get in the past 5 years from customers is the extermely long wash programmes on modern washing machines.
