ParticipantI have looked through the FAQ’s and other forum items and cannot find this question being asked before, if it has I apologise.
My Hotpoint WMA 30 washing machine, just out of 5 year warranty, has suddenly become very noisy when in spin program (almost as if a balance block is loose?), but still washes properly.
I have removed the little panel at the back to see if I can get to anything relevant (I can’t!!) – can anybody come up with an idea why it is so noisy or advise how to remove cover fully to see if I can see anything (or is this just an engineer jobby?).
cheers

right wma m if it has SUDDENLY become noisy it could be one of the little white pins holding the shockers on the bottom that has wobbled out and just needs snapping back into place
normally though these machines get slightly noisier gradually meaning that the bearings have gone big job contact an engineer theres a link here somewhereAugust 21, 2006 at 4:00 pm #185995Goatboy

Open the door, and spin the drum by hand.
Does it make a rumbling noise then, or is the drum loose? :hmm:

Loose concrete balance weights are very common on these machines, can lead to needing a drum replacement if not attended to, if the drum is quiet when you turn it by hand and there are no signs of rust marks at the back then loose weights are the first thing to check. One is on top of the drum, the other on the lower front of the outer drum. Please remove the plug if you intend to go further or check the link in my sig to see if we have someone who can help.

Hi Guys
thanks for the quick replies, much appreciated – I have spun the drum, both ways, and it rumbles and doesn’t appear loose.
Does this signify that balance weights are loose or something else please?
Also, I can find no way in to check the balance weights – unless I turn it upside down? – as it appears to only have a small panel at the bottom rear for any form of access. I have looked at one of the little plugs on the top-side but they appear to have a special screwhead to prevent “unauthorised” access.
I don’t wish to be stuck with a large repair bill which would still leave the rest of the machine being five years old, any clues on repair costs at all?
cheers
