ParticipantI have the above machine. The problem is there is no water coming through the spray arms.
I have cleaned them out, and the associated pipes. There was no blockage.
The machine fills with water, pumps the water out, and the timer works as it should.
It looks like everything is working except the motor which pumps the water to the spray arms. The impeller can be turned easily and spins freely, but the motor is very hot to the touch.
Has the motor burnt out?
How can I test that please?
Thanks Chris

Almost certainly a start/run capacitor failure. P/no 1800289 – email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for prices and ordering.

will that make the motor get hot around the windings and back of motor?
Can I test the motor in any way?
Thanks

Motor getting hot, therefore power is passing through it. If the capacitor fails, it doesn’t get the boost through the start winding to get the motor running. It will therefore get hot, pretty quickly!

can I test the capacitor before I buy one from your link?
I do believe what you are saying – and whats more it makes sense!!

Visual inspection – they blow up!
Can’t recommend an electrical test as these things can store up to 400v……

great pictures – could happen to anyone I suppose.
My capacitor visually looks okay – no shrapnel, blobs, bangs, holes or smoke.
Is it just a matter of changing it over for a new one?

Yup, a straight substitution. One nut and two or three wires.

ParticipantI now have a nice new capacitor – thanks.
Just one more quick question please. The connections on the capacitor look like this from the top.
_ _
_ _Which ones do I connect the 2 wires to that currently are on the existing one please?
There are no markings on the new capacitor.
Thanks

There are 4 terminals, but only two poles, so………. using your test meter, the pairs with virtually zero resistance are the poles. If you get a significant (rising) resistance, you’re metering across the poles.

ParticipantI know that makes sense — but me being a bit of a lemon, I need to confirm what I understand with you so I don’t blow this nice new capacitor through the kitchen wall.
A B
_ __ _
C DI have checked the continuity between the poles, and A & C are connected. B & D are connected.
I assume then that A & B are separate poles?
Does it matter which is +ive and -ive as they are not marked?
Thanks again.
Looking forward to plugging this monster in!!

You are correct. It’s an AC circuit, so + & – is not an issue. I assume you have only to make two connections – do them diagonally apart and you can’t go wrong.
