Sorry, couldn’t resist that. 😆
Seriously though, bearings come in all shapes and sizes, as do extractors.
Have you any particular models of machine in mind?

Pop into Cas and have a word with John Bunting – he did a custom kit with all sorts of fittings a few years back.

I thought I’d replace my ageing pullers and separator, so I bought a kit priced about £60 from Machine Mart containing two bearing separators with several bolt – on attachments and puller to remove a rusty bearing (6205ZZ) from a Zanussi ‘small bearing’ spider. I used to be a toolmaker so I know how to use extractors correctly and safely. So I assembled the smaller separator and puller and fitted it around the bearing. I slowly tightened it up and to my amazement, the puller literally bent and twisted like it was made of toffee!!! The bearing didn’t move at all!! 😈 The large separator in the kit was almost twice the size, so how the hell that could possibly work seemed beyond belief. The kit would be hard pushed to un-cap a beer bottle.
I managed to get the bearing off easily with a separator and pullers I had bought from a clearance store for about 4 quid each three years earlier.
So I took the kit back to Machine Mart to be greeted with that golden one-liner; ‘Never had one do that before sir, you must be using it incorrectly’. :rolls:
I asked him to explain how you could possibly misuse an extractor while using it for, ahem, extracting – but of course, he didn’t know as he’d never used one before! 10 minutes of arguement to get a refund. 👿
End of rant!
Sykes Pickavant do good strong tools – try them – or Snap – On as their lifetime warranty will cover breakages if any parts, er, Snap Off!!!! 😆Steve.
