    Hi everyone,

I’ve recently moved into a new flat and we have an Indesit WDG985W washine machine/dryer. If I set a wash going, the machine doesn’t drain at the end and also allows me to open the door once the wash is finished despite the drum being full of water! This even happens if I just try a spin cycle – Surely there shouldn’t even be any water used on this cycle?

Please could somebody advise me on the likely problem with this.

    Many thanks,
    Vicky

    Re: Indesit WDG985W not draining

There is no safety device built in to stop the door opening with water in the drum on Indesit washing machines, or hardly any manufacturer for that matter 😉

If this is a new flat (as in a new build/conversion) it’s almost certain that the spiggot on the sink trap the washing machine waste hose connects to is still “sealed” (the end needs to be cut off) 😀

    Dave.

    Dave,

Thanks for your advice. The flat isn’t actually new, we’re just new to it! And the machine is really old looking, as if it’s been in for years. Is there anything else that could be causing this?

    Many thanks,
    Vicky

Presumably a blockage or pump failure, Vicky. You can drain it by dropping the drain hose into a washing up bowl and letting gravity do it’s thing. There should be a filter under the kick panel at the front. Slacken the screw and remove (after the water has gone!) and see what has got through. You may need a torch to see all the way back into the pump.

    Regards,
    Penguin45.
