ParticipantHi all,
The machine was unattended when the module tracks blew explosively (see pic) The kitchen sockets MCB had tripped and the machine was at the start of a rinse/spin cycle. From reading other posts this combination seems to be enough to cause module problems.
It is not clear whether the module blew and then the MCB tripped or the MCB tripping was the cause of the module blowing while the machine was spinning. There was no sign of water being the cause.
The obvious thing to do is replace the module but before I do that I would like to know what other checks I could carry out to prevent a repeat performance given the expense of a replacement and the low standing these machines have within the trade.
Regards
Dan

hi,
the obvious earth leakage tests, especially on the heater. Check the loom where it is tie wrapped near the motor and across to the heater for “chaffing” against the motor support bracket.

KeymasterYep and check that the edge connector for the board isn’t kaput as well. 😕

be sure the machine is totally fine , these boards are not very good and will blow for damp or earth leakage or because you look at it in a funny way and be very sure before buying a new module as they cost well over 100 pound so it could be costly if you are not 150{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure. 🙁

Thanks for the advice…….I gave it a good looking at. No earth leakage from the heater, there was some chafing of the wires near the motor support bracket but the insulation was still sufficiently intact not to be a problem.
The edge connector looks a little dodgy on a few terminals where the burn up was so I will give it a clean and test for good connections.
I have found a replacement refurbed module from Emw Electronics for a little over £30 so perhaps it’s worth the risk of replacement.
BTW the outrageous price for a new module from Dabs spares is £149.99 + £6.50 p&p inc vat !!!! ………with these prices it’s no wonder the tips are full of relatively new machines. Dick Turpin comes to mind, I wonder if he works for Dabs?

No his spirit just lives on with many a manufacturer’s spares department, Servis being one of the more outrageous at times. 😉
