I have recently bought a new control panel for my Beko dishwasher but cannot work out how to remove the old one – has anyone else tried this?

Usually retained by screws through the door inner panel. Removing the door outer panel will normally make thing a little easier. Be very careful of the edges of the door inner – you can shave with them.
Power off, of course.
