    Hi,

Our hotpoint washing machine is a wma66 approximately 4 years old.
Its used 2-3 times a day.
It suddenly stopped working under a full load. (will run on empty)
There is a burning smell and sounds like static electricity.

Would you have any idea of the problem ? ❓
(other than call out an engineer, if so I guess it may be uneconomic to repair, we have called 1 out 6 months ago and the drum was replaced)

Thanks for any advice in advance

    Regards

    Andy

Drive motor carbon brushes are worn out. Do not continue to use the machine, as you risk damaging the motor.

Brushes can be obtained from spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk – the serial number will be required as there are two differenet motors used on these machines.

If you do not wish to do this yourself, click the link below for a UKW engineer in your area.

    Hi,

I’ve checked the carbon brushes and they look ok.
Maybe 10-20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} worn but with no charring.
The ends are still smooth and shiny.
    (The motor is a FHP)

Any ideas or time to call in an engineer ?

    Thanks

    Andy

Oh dear…… Probably the armature on its way out, so most likely a new motor required. Bear in mind that you have a 5 year parts warranty on the machine, so for once it would be worth paying Hotpoint’s £90 call-out to get the £130 motor for “free”.
