Hi hopefully someone can help me here,

The Prewash and wash lights flash and the dishwasher won’t perform any programs. When you open the door the botton of it is full of water. Just before it started doing this it asked for a salt refill although I don’t know if this is significant ?

I tried to check the waste pump but wasn’t sure if I got the right one. After opening it up there seems to be two pumps, a large one and a small one. I took off the small one which connects to the waste pipe and washed it through. I could not get the big one off due to the strange “welded jubilee clamps”. The two pumps connect to a large white “drainer” at the base of the dishwasher.

Sorry I don’t know the techy terms for these items but hopefully someone will know what I’m ranting about.

After getting it all back together ( with only 3 screws over !! ), it rinsed for about 4 minutes and then stopped with the now infamous flashing lights again and filled the base with water.

I’m a little naffed off now cos this took me 2 hours on a Bank Holiday !!

Any help would I’m sure retain my sanity and be gratefully accepted.

    thanks

    Steve

    Hi

Did you flush through the drain hose and make sure the outlet to sink trap or stand pipe were clear

    Hi there

this probably isn’t the best way to do it but I blew down the waste pipe ( connected to the sink drain ) as hard as I could and I could hear it at the other end in the plug hole.

I assumed from this is was clear ?

Left to right, which lamps are flashing? IE 1+3?

Yup, time out draining is the fault. Does the pump actually run? You can normally hear it…. When you had it apart, did the impellor turn easily? It should “ping” every quarter of a turn. If it feels stiff and reluctant to “ping”, it’s worn and will need to be replaced.

Re: Hotpoint DWF40 not emptying & flashing lights

foolishly I only washed it through, to try to clear any debris but didn’t turn the propeller at all. Have I taken the right pump out ?… ie the small one that connects to the waste pipe ? There was also a big one which I couldn’t get off. Also can I test it external to the machine ? Any ideas of the voltage to drive this ….240AC , 12v dc etc ? I’m an electronics engineer so I’ll give it a go.

I’ll strip it down again tomorrow …….. Happy days !!!

    Thanks

Your a genius Penguin45. Stripped it down again today and checked the impeller…. sure enough there was a piece of plastic from the knife & fork tray wedged in the blades.

removed it and re-assembled and hey presto !!!! ……….. the marigolds are back under the sink again !!!

    Many Thanks

    Steve
