I’ve had my Indesit WIE157S washing machine for 11 months so it’s still within warranty. I was doing a wash earlier and 10 minutes before the end I heard a huge crashing sound (thought a metal tray or something had fallen over in my kitchen)

When I went into my kitchen the washing machine was trying to spin but was just whirring and not moving at all. I turned the machine off and when I opened it one of the white plastic bits inside the drum had snapped off and the metal inside the drum was completely buckled around this area. The drum won’t move at all now (would usually shake from side to side if you tried)

    The inside of the drum…

I’ve turned the machine off and when I turned it back on it said F 08 on the display. I’ve looked this up and it looks like its something to do with the heater relay but I’ve got no idea what this means and how it affects the drum to cause it to buckle so badly.

Does this sound like its coverable under the year guarantee? I was only washing clothes and hadn’t overfilled the machine. Can anyone help me, please!?!

    Thank you

Heater is under the inner drum. If it comes off it’s mounting or buckles it can foul the inner drum…….. Dead heater can also give F08.

Phone call in the morning me thinks!

Thanks for your very quick response! 🙂

Would this be coverable by the year guarantee? Is there anything I could have done to cause this? Could it have been caused by an item of clothing like a sock or something “escaping” from the drum and getting stuck outside?

Nah, sock would get shredded PDQ, or jam the drum causing the belt to break. Besides, it’s hardly a user error if the machine were to eat an item of laundry. Now coins and other foreign objects are a different matter…….. 😀

    Thanks.

Do you think it’s likely to be covered by the guarantee from what I’ve said?

Or could F08 and a stuck, buckled drum be caused by a foreign object?

(sorry for being so dumb but I’m just hoping so much that it is covered by guarantee coz I really don’t have the money to repair/replace at the moment!)

Sad to say but looking at your picture I don’t think the heater alone has caused that amount of damage. I would not go as far as to say I would eat K Heath if I was wrong 😉 but I think you have left something in a pocket which is responsible. That is not something that is covered by the warranty but you may get lucky with a sympathetic engineer.

Oh I hope it’s not that. A lot of the damage was caused where the plastic “stirrer” thing has broken off. I think the drum was trying to move but something on the outside of it has stopped it so it pushed and pushed and pushed until the plastic snapped and the metal buckled.

I’ve just rung and got an engineer booked for this Friday. Unless he can prove differently (i.e. pulls a pair of tweezers or something ridiculous out) I’m arguing for it to be repaired/replaced for free.

I guess I’m lucky in a way that it’s broken now rather than in a months time when I’m out of warranty!

    Thanks for your help.
