ParticipantHi
Am thinking about a new machine – it’s looking more and more likely. (Gulp)
John Lewis offer the above Bosch for £250 with 2 years guarantee (Parts & Labour).
They offer the Siemens for £399 but for another couple of days they are throwing in 5 years parts & labour guarantee?
The missus fancies the more expensive one (surprise surprise 🙂 ) but I just don’t know if it is a) a better machine and b) what is the value of the extra 3 years of warranty.
By the way – JLP offer an extension of the warranty on the Bosch to 5 years for an extra £129 – which brings the price up close to that of the Siemens.
Which one would you recommend we go for based on your experiences with how often these break down and how expensive to repair etc?
Also – after the 5 years can I replace the brushes in these motors? We currently have an ancient old Hotpoint which although it is noisy I must say that I have always been able to work on it to fix it so far. Have heard some horror stories about throwing away whole motors when the brushes go on some new machines – wondered if either the Bosch or the Siemens were like this?
Thanks
Doug

Hi Doug
I think you`ve answered most of your own questions and the Siemens machine with 5 year parts and labour really does represent a good deal IMO. As you say if you add the cost of the guarantee to the Bosch you have virtually the same price but Siemens has the edge on little brother Bosch for quality.
Service wise both much the same and yes brushes can be replaced on that motor.

Of course, there is another choice you could make. The ISE machine.

Must say I didn’t know about the ISE.
UK Whitegoods Special I take it? How much?
Went for the Siemens – arrives Thursday. Will post feedback on how it behaves.

Yes it is. And I have to say so-far-so-amazingly-good
Maybe it’s going from a 15 (+?) year old machine to this one but wow – what a difference. I keep having to check that it’s on!!
“Can you hear that?”
“No”
“Exactly” 🙂 -
