I have a very old CREDA Reversair tumble dryer (Model 37544M – I think, from a very faded label on the back), which isn’t drying anymore, although it’s still tumbling. It’s given great service over a long period of time, even when consigned to the garage for the last 3 years so I don’t want to have to replace it if I don’t need to.

From reading the postings here it seems that it could just be the thermostat. If that’s the case, please could anyone tell me the model number (if they’re still made) and where I could get one. If it’s not that, anyone get any other ideas?

    Thanks.

Thermostat kit is a very common 1741124, the most likely culprit. however it could be the element or the timer. Checking with the correct test equipment is the only way to be certain.

Stat kit can be found here. http://tinyurl.com/jyjoc

Thanks Jim – I ordered & received the kit you suggested but when I came to fit the 2 sensors I could only find one and that had a different code to those in the kit – L50C 75 971 91M. Should there be another one on my model, and if so, how do I find it? Also, is the kit I purchased, the correct one?

    Cheers

It sounds as though you have a model 375440001L, not a 37544M001Q.

On the 37544M there should be two thermostats above the heating element housing. If it is the earlier 375440001L then it will have two wires on the right hand side of the element casing, attached to a single thermostat with a visible bi-metal cut out. This does not appear to be in the shop but is part number 1740235 or better still, a generic TOC08 is what you need.

As I mentioned in my first post, checking with the correct test equipment before you change any parts is the only way to be certain, regardless of which type of thermostat is in situ.

NB. The L50C stat is the exhaust stat situated in the front venting duct whilst the stats that fail commonly are at the back, close to the heating element. you may have ordered the correct parts but are looking in the wrong place for the faulty ones.

A bit remiss of me but I should remind you to make sure you remove the mains plug when you have your hands inside.

    Jim,

You were right. I had ordered the correct parts initially but was looking in the wrong place. All sorted now thanks to the help on this forum – saved me the cost of a new tumble dryer – brilliant!
