I have a Creda E420EK Europa Solarplus electric oven and the main (bottom) oven is now not heating up. Top oven is still working fine though.

With the oven door closed, when I turn the dial to switch the main oven on, I can hear the fan kick in, the inside light comes on but the red indicator light to the left hand side of the dial now does not come on and no heat is generated in the oven.

If I then open the main oven door, the red light comes on?, the fan slows down and stops after a few seconds and the inside light stays on. Again, no heat is generated but I expect that it shouldn’t be if the door is open.

I have fitted a new element but the oven is still not generating any heat at all and the red indicator light does not come on when the dail is turned and the door is shut.

Can anyone shed any light on what this problem is likely to be and how it can be fixed. I like to think that I am pretty handy and would prefer to obtain a replacement part if necessary and fit it myself but I wouldn’t want to end up doing more damage to the oven if its too complicated.

Would appreciate any thoughts and advice.

Sounds like a thermostat issue – red lamp is normally cycled by the thermostat making and breaking the supply to the element.

    Pewer off if investigating,

Thanks for your response. Is a new thermostat easy to fit?

It appears to consist of a probe in the oven itself which is secured behind the fan with two screws, (I’ve already tried removing this and it is quite easy). The probe then continues into a very thin length of cable that comes out of the side of the oven and winds its way up inside the side casing and then across the top and then this dissappears into a small square unit in front of the ‘rockers’ (this is probably not the right term for them but they are the brass coloured things that move up and down to make a contact when the on/off dial is rotated around).

Would this small square unit be supplied as part of the thermostat and how is it removed/fitted? I can’t see any other way of replacing just the probe and metal cable without replacing the small square unit as well but maybe I’m missing something.

I phoned a couple of people earlier and one was very perplexed when I explained the fault to him, the other seemed to think it may be a faulty micro switch, which opens and closes when the oven door opens and closes against it. Any possibility that it could be this?

I am currently working on a process of trial and error but, If I am unable to solve this one by either replacing the Thermostat or Door Micro Switch, or both, how would an Engineer who comes out to test the oven determine what the fault is?

A local engineer would very likely check all the relevant components and wiring. Whilst faults can seem puzzling when discussed even with experts in the field over the Internet or indeed the telephone. It is easier, quicker and much safer for that same expert to do the job for you. I therefore advise you check out the link below. 😉
