ParticipantThe boor damping spring has come apart. Noothing looks broken. But I can’t reconnect them without too much tension. Ideas anyone?

There’s a Blomberg DW120 that’s made by Brandt for Comet.
The spring arrangement doesn’t look to be anything unusual though, they may have stretched perhaps ?

ParticipantIt is the oposite..it seems too shrt. There is a string that goes round a pully then a spring attached to a bent thick wire.
They were still in place but the string was not connected.when I join it all up the tension is too tight..I did get it froim Comet.September 5, 2006 at 7:52 pm #187302Penguin45

There is usually a tension adjuster up at the top on each side – looks like an opened out jubilee clip.

Don’t send me it – I can fix your dishwasher, but I’d need the Mrs to post a piccie 😀 .
Either upload through Photobucket or similar, or send in to admin@ukwhitegoods.co.uk with a note of which thread you want it attaching to.
I confess to being puzzled by this – there is normally only one way to route the strings and then you hook the springs on with the door shut – reasonable force is required, but not really a technical problem.
Blomberg is a Brandt brand (alliteration at this time of night!) – they are not exactly forthcoming with any sort of tech support, so a good side on shot of the the cables and springs might just help us out.
Regards.

ParticipantHi, I will get a picture taken.. I have managed to get it all hooked up with the door shut , but the tension when I open the door is too great and the whole thing pings apart! I must be doing something wroong!

Dunno what happened, DIYman, but the pictures landed in my inbox this morning!

Right, so Brandt are still using the door strings. The standard problem with these was that the loop where the spring attaches to the string cracks. As soon as tension is applied, the crack opens and the spring slides through, often with a terrific bang. Inspect the loops carefully, I’m pretty sure that’s the problem.
Pair of new strings is p/no 31X8637 – an email to spares@ukwhitegoods with the part number will get things moving for you.
