I have just been preparing my Hotpoint Mistral 8596 for market following the fitting of a new kitchen and this FF no longer being required. When I came to turn it on the freezer soon came down to temperature but the fridge did not, from previous experience I changed the two thermistors in the freezer compartment as the fan wasn’t running. The fan didn’t run for a while after restoring power but eventually it did – is this normal? Secondly I unplugged the unit in order to replace the cowling around the fan and evaporator but now the fan will not come on again, I have checked all connections are tight and that I haven’t disturbed anything, I have also proved the door switch. Once again the freezer has come down to temp but the fan still remains stationary – any one got any clues for a quick fix as I have just spent £30 on new thermistors and do not want to spend any more money on it as I wish to sell it and make some profit.

Fan will only run after a while. Is the door light switch being pushed up into the facia correctly ie door dropped?

I have checked the door and it is not dropped. Thanks for the advice about the fan timing, how long should it run for and how long after restoring power as it seems to be taking its time

The fan motor itself may have failed of course 😉
I think you’ve covered all the other options (apart from a possible PCB fault).

The fan eventually kicked in after I changed the thermistors but when I powered down the unit to restore the cowling it wouldn’t kick in again so although yes it could have failed I find it unlikely that it would have gone just upon the restoration of power – could be a possible PCB fault like you say.
