We have a problem with our washer/dryer whereby as soon as we turn the power on various lights on the front panel flash for a few seconds then error lights 3 + 4 both flash quickly along with the door lock light. I have posted earlier on the site and was advised this is a temperature control problem??

However an engineer has looked at the machine and cannot determine the fault – he has advised it may be best to try replacing the module (the part with the lights at thr front) at a cost of £100+

I believe that this is not the issue though and wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of what the actual fault may be? Thermostat? heating element or something similiar perhaps?

If anyone has had any experience of these particular error lights before any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

OK – going by the “codes”, this is specifically a temperature sensor fault. This can mean:

    The sensor is faulty.
    The wiring/connector is faulty.
    The computer board is faulty.

The codes are not a magic bullet – they just point us hapless engineers in the right direction, so your engineer may well be correct in his diagnosis. I should point out that £100 for the job is actually very reasonable!

Hello I have the same error code on our machine.

(lees19981, did you get your machine fixed, if so what was it?)

Can someone please tell me where to locate the possible parts inside the machine so I can investigate further.

I am a qualified electronics engineer but I didn’t take the white goods service course at uni, so don’t worry about me poking around inside the machine!

Any service diagrams or help would be much appreciated as the machine is only several months old but the supplier we bought it from is no longer in business.

    Thanks in advance

If a module is faulty, and it is worth stating that the electronics on these machines are notoriously unreliable, it is more than likely that the main module in the base and not the control module ‘with the lights’ is at fault.

PIPY. There are no service diagrams available, even to the trade. The flashing lights are at best a rough guide. Proper fault diagnosis is via a special hardware key, costing around £130, you also need a laptop enabled with the special software, EMIT/Washdoctor, again only available to Indesit/Hotpoint engineers. 😥 Come the revolution, the general public may eventually realise that purchasing cheap, over complicated, unreliable Italian made appliances is not the best option in the long term. Sadly, the ‘throw away society’ of today are still a long way from redemption.

    Hello Jim

    Thanks for the infomation.
I can confirm that there is a problem on the main module.

Connector J10 (two blue, two red & two black wires) has burnt the PCB where the two blue wires are.

I cleaned the contacts and tested the machine but it just started to smoke again.

I need to get my meter out and trace the wires to see what they connect to, because I guess the fault may be caused by something elsewhere which is also faulty.

    Any thoughts?

Where should I look to get spares?
Is it worth repairing? would it be more cost effective to buy new?

and the golden question if we do look at buying new what make & model should we buy, which is the most reliable?

    thanks again

i have the same machine only the EU version, it started with a loud rumbeling noise after 3 months when the concrete weights got loose in the bottom, now it coocked my clothes and put out the same code as described above.. {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d})

I also have a WIDL 146 flashing led’s 3+4+Door Lock – and like PIPY am to qualified poke around with all things electrical.

So if it’s a thermistor or main module from an initial peek under the bonnet looks like a DIY-able job if I only knew where the get the bits (and a pic of the board layout).

Any help with this would be most appreciated as the machine really isn’t that old – the fault is timed perfectly to coincide with end of 12mo warranty 👿

Next time I make sure I only buy the ‘most reliable machine’ I can find, whatever that may be – maybe there’s a poll on this website somewhere?

    Many thanks, Ian.

    Ian,
You obviously used the “Search” facility, or scanned back through a good few posts to find your machine. Had you put in “Indesit AND electronics”, you would find, quite literally, hundreds of posts relating to computer board failures. It does seem to be the major failing of the Indesit Group laundry products over the last few years. Other brands in the group include Ariston, Cread and Hotpoint…….. This is before you get onto bearings, suspensions, sealed tubs and all the rest of what is driving us professionals nuts.

A professional answer would be to take advantage of your 5 year parts warranty – pay the £90, get all your parts for free. It’ll pay for the computer board straight off.

However, there is far superior product available, for little more money. Elmag is a newish member, and is not part of the Trade group, so I cannot vouch for how he arrived at his comment.

    HTH,

Penguin45, many thanks for the advice I will give the helpline a call in that case for their flat rate repairs. Will confirm back to the forum with the diagnosis.

    BR, Ian.
