ParticipantWe have a Hotpoint WD420 washer dryer, rarely use the dryer but the washer programs do not move on from the wash cycle onto the rinse and spin portion of the programme.
Manually starting the Rinse and Spin still works OK
Any suggestions on what might be at fault, is it a specialist repair or will a competent DIY mechanic manage it OK

How long have you left it before deciding it was not going to move on?
Almost all faults on this machine should generate an error code by flashing a certain combination of the Option neon lights. The wash times on modern machines are a great deal longer than machines from a few years ago.
Set it on a wash programme and after about 10 minutes go and observe your electricity meter. Make sure that you do not have any other high current appliances running, cooker, kettle, immersion heater etc. If the heater in the washing machine is in operation, and depending on the type of meter you have you will see the disc spinning quite quickly or the red neon light flashing at very short intervals. If either of these can be observed then the machine is on a heat cycle. It will not advance until it reaches the correct temperature for the selected programme.
If the machine was not heating, or overheating an error code should be displayed.

We have left it on the wash cycle for 1-2 hours before registering that it hasn;t moved on. I will look for error codes this evening as well as checking the suply of Hot Water.
I will also check the electricity meter as you suggest
thanks

Thanks for that johnnyj, very helpful.
To be honest I have not had a heater failure on any WMA based machines, the odd loose wire or severe coin damage, but no heater failures as such.
ali_b. To clarify, if you cannot observe the electricity meter revolving or flashing quickly then it follows from what johnnyj has said that your machine is not heating. Whilst visual inspection may reveal the cause, if it does not, then checking with correct test equipment is the only answer.
With the plug removed of course. 😉

Ali_b,
I have that same fault code on my WD640. I’m guessing it’ll mean the same thing. If you find the solution, please let me know. And I’ll do some reserch my end and get back.
Good luck
