Hi guys, hope somebody can help.

Have got an 18 month old Hotpoint RLA 21P refrigerator that had a problem where it was freezing up at the back blocking the drain hole with ice.

The unit had an extended warranty and has had a replacement thermostat fitted to no avail. Had a second engineer visit who seemed to think it was (and I cant remember which) either the compressor or condensor not shutting off and so requiring replacement.

there was then a cock up at the warranty company and the spare was not ordered and as the warranty I have got has a time limit for repair this was exceeded and the unit replaced.

However – the old fridge has been left with me so I have ben wondering if it is a relativelty cheap and simple repair.

I am a competent DIYer, I build PC’s for a hobby and have carried out simple repairs on washing machines etc…

Would be a bonus if I could repair this cheaply myself 🙂

    Any help appreciated

    Hi

If its not shutting off , then the problem is the thermostat.

    Hi Mike

the thermostat was replaced and did not cure the problem. This was the engineers original diagnosis as well…

with this not curing the problem a second engineer said that it was the condenser / compressor that needed to be replaced…

if it is blocking up drain hole then insualtion around drain hole.

changing a million thermostats and compresors wont stop the fault its put up with it or bin it.

Theres some refrigeration engineers working for some companies that dont know the difference in diagnosing correct faults.
