Gorenje will present its prototype refrigerator and iPod at the Consumer Electronics Fair IFA in Berlin.
Licence agreement with Apple was signed at the beginning of this year and enables Gorenje to use Apple technology and the logo “Made for iPod”.
The production of this household appliance, which will not be mass, will start at the end of the year. The price of the refrigerator will be known once the development of the product is completed.
Reportedly the device will provide the iPod with a speaker and a dock, it is possible control the fridge itself using your iPod Touch or iPhone using an application called iGorenj.
The fridge is operated from a home server that controls the appliances directly.
According to Gismodo you can also set your Gorenje oven to cook a type of cake by just visually selecting a recipe and clicking start. You can even get recipes straight from the server itself.
We fail to see the point of it really as it won’t select the ingredients, mix them up or whatever and then put them in the oven for you, it all just seems like a PR gimmick that has no real world, practical use. Mind you, gadget freaks might love it so they can boast about how clever their fridge is.
Or verdict, more iGimmick than iUseful!
