Hi, I have error code E40 displayed on my washing machine. Door light is lit and so cannot be opened whilst machine is on. The door mechanism repeatidly clicks as if its trying to release but to no avail. Leaving the machine off for 5-10 minutes releases the door (presumbably some sort of servo unit retracting if left alone!). However, every program start checks for faults so cannot use machine at all.

Found a post somewhere detailing some diagnostics (Start+Reset, then power on) and this led me to a more specific E42.

Any ideas on what E42 actually relates to or even where I might be able to find out without getting an engineer out? I have searched for both codes without much success so far. I’m hoping its something simple that I can clean / replace myself.

    Model – iz16
    Type – P6749639
    Prod No. – 914513005
    Age – 6-7 (ish!) years

It could be a faulty door interlock or, more likely the power board blown, Needs configuring when a new board is fitted, so would advise expert help on that one.

😥 Oh bum! I really hoped it would be a simple thing! Ok, I resign to the fact that I need an engineer. Who would you recomend? I trust your guidance based on what I have read.

This is a really cool site by the way, if you ever need any I.T. support, you let me know 🙂

    Thanks guys (and girls??)

    Best regards,

    Quent. 🙁

Click the link below or the red tool box for a UKW engineer in your area.

Thanks Penguin45! Glad to say “Yippee! Its all sorted!” 😀

Thought I’d come back and detail the outcome in case anyone else has this problem.

The E40 (E42) error code was bleeting on about a faultly door lock (Electrolux part number 1249675131 about £24 +VAT). It took the guy less than 5 minutes to fit and test and we have a operational machine!!!!

Its the call out charge thats the killer! 😆

I tried your engineer lookup for my area but I guess the guy was snowed with work, never mind. If you are in the South, try B&R Services (google for number) they were pretty good. (Have to add that this is my personal recommendation and not made by the dedicated team here at UKWG – disclaimer over 😀 )

Thanks again Guys, in the nicest possible way, hope I don’t need your assistance again too soon!!

    Kind Regards,
    Quent.
