Does the pump actually run? That has to be the first step. With the machine empty and the filter removed, set the machine to spin – does the impellor rotate? “No” is simple – object jamming the pump, or pump failure. “Yes” is more complex…… A 5p coin will exactly fill and block the outlet tube from the pump. The anti-syphon bottle in the rear left corner of the machine can become choked, especially of you live in a hard water area. The water level control and level switch may be faulty. Finally, the computer itself may have decided not to play anymore – try not to think about that, as it’s damned expensive.

It certainly wouldn’t help so cleaning that thoroughly is the way to go. Paying close attention to also clearing the little black bleed hose to the dispenser. And making sure the dispenser end is clear too! 😉

My guess if the hose to the pump and the hose from the pump are now fully clear and you still have a problem? Then the answer is that the pump itself is knackered (excuse the technical term here? 🙂 ) Bearing in mind your WFR2860 is no spring chicken, pumps are only good for around 5 years – average. The impellor shaft gets well worn and has loads of lateral movement. Time to stick in a new one I reckon, try this link for a new one! 🙂

Hope no-one minds me bumping this post, there’s no conclusion posted (unless the new pump did the trick) so I’ll add my woes to here rather than start a new thread!

Anyway, my WFR2860 is playing up.

It stops during the drain cycles, and just hums. Initially, there was a bit of that grey clay semi-solid gunk blocking the rotor, which I removed and it worked fine. I ran the pump with the drain plug off and it span freely as I imagine it should.

it worked for a bit, then did it again, but there was no gunk blocking the pump, although the pipe from the chamber into the pump was furred with grey gunk which I have cleared as best I can.

Also, in the periods it is working, it sometimes detects foam (there is none) and goes into several extra unecessary rinse cycles.

Therefore my questions are:

A) Will an acid descale clear the grey gunk?
B) When the pumps fail (it is 7yrs old now) do they just stop dead or go intermittent like mine?
C) Are there any methods to troubleshoot the level sensor or the control module?

Lastly if it proves uneconomical to repair if the computer is dead, do any of the professionals have anything to say about the new line of LG washers?

Just to complete this thread, I received the pump yesterday and fitted it.

Once fitted, the machine still struggled to empty, so I pulled the drain hose from the undersink spigot, and stuck one of those springy drain cleaner thingies down it.

Anyway, after a bit if clearing and pumping out into a bowl, it regurgitated 7 years of grey crud from the pipe, and now drains & functions correctly.

I can only think that the gradual narrowing of the pipe put more strain on the old pump, and eventually it just gave out. (Sorry to sound like a heart surgeon 😉 )
