ParticipantHi Guys
I seek advice from the experts please
Unsure as to best course of action. We have Lovely looking Smeg dishwasher DWF 64SSE (cost (£650) now around 4 years old. Bought for name and S/Steel finish. It first went wrong exactly 2 years ago to the month and the chap that came to repair knew exactly what was wrong and it took him around 20 mins to fix. Replacing the Soap Dispenser. The whole thing costing £140. Varous bits have fallen off the machine including two of the nylon lugs that the top panel screws fix into, the handle has disentigrated as the guts of it is made of cheap plastic.
Now yesterday the thing has gone wrong again. I am getting no error codes. Water is pumping in and out, the dispenser opens and then rather than the swooshing noise of the water and the cleaning arms, it just hums and every so often a sort of cracking bumping noise comes from the base area. It continues on through the cycle and ends with the normal 4 flashing lights. If you halt mid programme and re-start it will pump out the water and flash two lights. It also heats up as there is a ton of steam at the end of the cycle, but it doesnt actually wash anything, just sort of slowing steams everything. Maybe we should use it for the veg instead.
Anyway, finally to the point, is it worth getting in an Engineer which could cost another £140 +, or should we cut our losses and go and buy a German instead? We have not had much luck with Italian White goods, we threw away our Ariston washing machone after 14months and 3 breakdwons and bought a Hoover instead.
Is it the Italian electrics thing that their cars used to suffer from or are we just unlucky? Would welcome some advice please
Many thanks

Circulation pump not running. If you are lucky, it will be just the start capacitor which has failed, although the “cracking bumping” noise points more towards the motor itself having failed.
The capacitor is only a few pounds, but the motor complete runs out at about £138 plus VAT, and your engineer will probably quote for an hour and a half to replace it.
German dishwashers – Seimens/Bosch is good, Miele is the best you can buy.
HTH,

Thanks very much for the advice, much appreciated. Dont want to do the repair Engineers out of a job, but I think its time to start the new appliance research proper, I have seen some five year guarantees being offered on New Germans….
Once again Many thanks and Kind regards

Un plug appliance before investigating any further :plug:
A quick check of the mains supressor on these beasties wouldn’t go a miss either, it will be obvious if it has blown 😉Greg
