ParticipantHi
I have read all of the posts in this forum relating to this issue and I have been impressed by the helpfulness of the responses.
I seem to be suffering from the 2-2.5 year issue of the fridge not working and water stopping :(.
I understand what the issue it (ice in the fan, too small drain hole, error code: fridge temperature bottom right bar, etc) but I wanted some advice about what my next steps should be.
My freezer is full of home made baby food and obviously the fridge has our day to day stuff in. I have been running the fridge at 7 degrees to try and assist the thawing process (since thursday) but hasn’t made any difference.
Can I defrost the fridge and not the freezer? Do you think if I turned the unit off and left the fridge door open for 24 hours the freezer would remain frozen?
As an aside I have contacted Currys and Samsung who have fobbed me off with the usual – it is outside of the 2 years warranty we don’t know anything about it and have given me the name of their local service centre.
Thanks in advance
regards
Matt

Hi, sorry you can’t turn the unit off to defrost the fridge, both fridge and freezer will defrost.
Defrosting the fridge is best done by a combination of dismantling and heating the ice. However the NO1 culprit is likely to be the rear panel and hence a replacement part required. There’s also the small problem of checking a TOC/Thermistor/2 x heaters/ and defrosting the drain channel, it’s not a DIY job in my opinion.
Try the repairs@ section or post up the 1st part of your postcode to see if there’s an engineer who can assist you.

Hi
The problem you have will require the evaperator cover to be changed, this problem does not happen to all samsung fridge freezers at 2 – 2 1/2 yrs.
Samsung do give a 2 yr warranty which is far greater than the majority of manufacturers who still give 12 months.Bryan

I guessed that was the case but I was working on the assumption that if the door was left shut the freezer may have stayed cold enough not to spoil the food

From what I read, I thought that this was caused by too small a drain hole in the the cover which is changed in the new cover. This sounds to me like a “recognised fault” or the cover would still be the same.
I stumbled across this forum by googling for the product code and the majority of the sites I found (other than the straight price comparision sites) had this listed.

Yes – but you need to fill in the card. I tend to not bother with these because strickly speaking if the manufacturer is willing to warrant the device will be ok for this long and the device fails, I have a resonable claim under the Sale of Goods act that the device failed within the reasonable lifetime of the device. However in this case we did fill it in (the wife saw the ‘Prize Draw’) but it happened outside of the two years. 😕
To be honest this is one of the best fridges we have ever had – fruit and veg seem to last weeks in it.

Hi
The reason why UKW has the google search is due to the amount of questions and the help we give to the general public and the low amount of experienced engineers who Know about the Samsung range of refrigeration.
Yes the drain has been made larger but that is a common change througout all the manufaturers of frost free refrigeration.

i think you should do what i have done.contact watchdog..even though the item has passed its 2 year warranty does not mean that its fine for it to break down, when the item cost so much in the first place..i bought mine from currys,,,who deny any knowledge of the problems of this fridge.even though if you do a google ,everyone seems to be having this (noisey fan and iceing up)problem,so it can only get worse.there should have been some kind of explanation from samsung.currys have told me i have to get an engineer to come and look at it,so he can agree with what i said, then they may agree to pay for the engineer and the parts required…do as i have done ..contact where you bought it,then contact watchdog if no joy..thanks and goodluck,
