One for our BSH colleagues, if you’d be so kind. Installed an SE55M570GB/37 for my customer (who wishes to read any responses) some months ago now.

His complaint is that the filters are collecting significant amounts of yellow sludge after each wash – even allowing for cleaning the filters to a shine before any given cycle. BSH have attended and the customer has been told that the problem is most likely the plumbing. I find this hard to believe as the matrix has an anti-syphon device and there is a non-return valve on the drain pump. The run to the drain pipe is not excessive.

My question would be, is this one of the machines which suffered from the underfilling problem?

The customer has further advised that his wife has been using an Ecover detergent – I have suggested that he desist, run a dishwasher cleaner through and change to something like Fairy Bursts. He will try this and report back.

In the meantime, any comments (preferably intelligent) would be welcomed.

    Thank you,
    Penguin45.

    Don’t try using vinegar! :rotfl:

…but seriously, assuming BSH have fully tested the machine and confirmed it is functioning to spec, then it must be either iron deposits in the incoming water supply or the brand of detergent used. 😉

(Do you remember the Bosch call I had a while back where everything turned blue inside?….that was the liquid detergent they were using caused that!)

Without seeing it can’t really say for definate 😕

But I would assume that our guy tested everything. But even with the non-return valve etc I’ve still seen dishwashers backfill from the drains.

I would agree with changing the detergent and see how things go.

Don’t suppose there’s any photo’s of this gunge is there?.

    Hi

I had this once, and found that the water was not reaching high enough temperature to disolve fats and grease of dishes. Changed stats and all was OK . I allways check water temperature now on any dishwasher job.

Hold up just a second Mike, we are talking brand new Siemens dishwasher here, electronic NTC temp control (very accurate to with 5 degrees of whatever temp the programme dictates). So I think its pretty certain we can rule that out. 😕

Unless of course the user only uses a “Quickwash” cycle every time that is 💡

As this is a public forum I won’t ask how you actually check dishwasher temperatures on every call you make? Best left to another thread in the trade section for that I guess. 🙂

Re: Yellow sludge on Siemens filters.

The yellow sludge is most likely fats and grease. I have noticed this in my Bosch. I think that the filters are of a somewhat poor design; in as much that there is a flange around the “twist ‘n’ lock” filter which always seems to attract particles of brocolli and grease.

I found it was more likely to occur on the normal wash programme, so I tend to use the intensive cycle most times.

I would recommend that you use a HIGH QUALITY DETERGENT such as FINISH, FAIRY or SUN.

I have tried Ecover (as has my mother) with rather poor results (namely the stench that built up in the machine after a week or two – could this have been from undissolved grease?)

Curiously enough, I had a chat with my customer this very evening. They have changed over to the Bursts, and within a week, the problem has disappeared, so we can safely say that it was a detergent issue.

He was very pleased with the comments to date, so thanks to all.
