Is there an air leak somewhere or is the vent hose split and the fluff being sucked into the cabinet?
I have seen a few with a worn front felt seal.

I bet the reason for all the fluff was that the black plastic vent pipe had come adrift inside?

No, drum front felt seal completely adrift, you can see it hanging down the side of the drum. The customers original complaint was, poor drying, back of cabinet getting very hot and the walls at the back dripping with condensation.

Ah I see that now 😳
Did you look at the TESTED BY label on the back I wonder? I suspect it wasn’t Midge Ure or even Phil Collins in this case but their colleague FELTON JOHN………..???

As a postscript to this, I fitted a new duct assy and seal. The old duct was in such a mess that it would have taken far to long to clean it sufficiently to be able to accept a new seal. The really annoying part was that the new seal came with detailed instructions on how to ‘carefully remove’ the backing from the felt seal, unfortunately it was just like the last two or three felts seals from Hotpoint that I have received, that is to say that almost half of the backing strip and the adhesive had already come adrift of the seal. I had to fit the seal and apply a small amount of Debhor adhesive between the seal and duct to secure it in several places. 😥
Jim.
PS. I think this should be posted in the thread regarding ‘senior moments/stupid mistakes’ but I reassembled it then found the four plastic bearing pads on the worktop behind me. I have been under a little stressed out ATM, at least that is my excuse. 😳

Is it common place, I have known several of these where the felt seal has simply come adrift and filled with lint – not quite as bad but non the less full of lint.
