ParticipantI thought I was going to a simple brush change job but I found the machine had been fitted with an FHP motor. Brushes were fine so I took the timer off to look for any damage. Looked OK so I checked continuity of the motor cable. It turned out there were loose wires in the motor plug. I’ve never fitted one of these motor conversions so I didn’t realise until I looked up the parts that you don’t get a motor loom, just a loose plug. It looks like the plug was badly fitted and the wires were not secure. I don’t have the correct insertion tool so I might end up just fitting 7 individual spades to the wires. Has anyone on here had bother with these plugs?

The part number for the Rast Plug Insertion Tool was (not sure if still available mind you?) 570108.

All the time, that’s why having the correct tool for the job is most important. 😕
P.S I’ve just checked on Connects website and they want seriously ‘funny money’ for one! 🙁

Thanks Martin.
£90 + VAT for the tool? 8O. Loose spades it is then. The machine is mine now anyway, customer rang to say he’s decided to get a new one. When I saw the 8 or so Scottish Gas service stickers on the back of the machine I realised why he’s given up on it.October 3, 2006 at 12:41 pm #190486Martin

I think there is also another way you can tackle the problem of inserting the wires into a Rast plug? You know those British Telecom phone wire insertion tools you can get from the likes of B & Q etc? You know the ones that normally come with the kit if you want to fit a phone extension? I’m pretty sure that one of those will do the job?
I’ve got one chucking around the office here somewhere, I will try and dig it out and see if my theory works? :rolls:

I’ve got a phone type tool, the fancy sort that snips the wire to length as it inserts it. Tried that, won’t work 🙁 I suppose the cheapo type might be different though 😕

Dunno the one you refer to? The one I am talking about is just a white plastic ‘stick’ about 2 inches long that you simply poke the wire into the connector! 😉
