After Kens post in Trade Spares, Im in the middle of comparing some current BSH spares with CDSL.

    Heres one for starters
WAA24160GB/01 – PC Board 64.00+VAT GBP BSH list price
Same part on CDSL site £124.85 +VAT
The motor for this appliance was only a few pence difference in favour of CDSL.

Nothing changes Greg nor will it as far as CDSL are concerned on pricing. Yet another glaring example I agree but one which that company revels in overall as the premier UK spares wholesaler. It appears from reading thousands of posts over the years, that around 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the trade use them as their main supplier. Little wonder as their stock holding is staggering in the extreme, they sell everything and their supply and demand is phenominal.

You may notice that many BSH electronic modules sold through CDSL do have at least a 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} mark-up on BSH retail prices overall. Their Servis pricing is just as inflated. Trade prices eh?….. they don’t give a toss!

    Hi Martin
I compared around 10 appliances modules and motors last night and found CDSL to be only a fewpence to a few quid difference than BSH 😕

I must admit, after the recent hammering they’ve had, my Brandt prices have dropped quite a bit 🙂

LG, Samsung, Smeg etc remain at rip off city though level 🙁

There’s more to that than meets the eye, it’s political. 😉

    This installation thing.

It seems like there are not many that like the idea, and I’m one of them.

So far I’ve said I will give it a shot, but as soon as looks like going tits up, I’m out.

There are not many Connect agents in here I’m sorry to say, but I picked up a vibe yesterday that if an agent says no, he could suddenly have a reduced workload. Nothing has been said, it was a feeling I had passed on by another Connect agent, and that to me looks scary.

Personally I think Dave Parker has been sucked in by this, and Dave being Dave is putting it out in a way that looks like it may slip in under the radar. Had they given the whole brief to Gary, he would have told everyone they MUST do it, and there would have been more dissent.

If they are trying to do this by surrepticious means, then they disappoint me. A leopard never changes its spots, Roy may be on sick leave, but some things look very familiar.

    Re: CDSL at it again

There’s been a lot of dissent, every CDSL agent I’ve spoken to is not happy and doesn’t want to do it and, that’s surprising as there’s always normally a few stalwarts that will say it’s a good thing in any event.

Let’s face it, you sell a machine and give this service you make a lot more than £41 out the deal so it’s then worth the hassle but, for the rates on offer, it’s not IMO.

I can tell you that on the fridges, it’s illegal what is being asked of the agents. And, were it being done by a specialist company for Currys, such as Swift, then it would be costing them close on £100 per appliance exchanged. No wonder Currys went for it as it savs them a damn fortune, highly attractive option especially as they pass off the WEEE responsibility and probably why they can afford to not get the machines back. Saying that, knowing Currys they’ll probably just debit the manufacturer as that’s their way.

TBH I think that CDSL have been taken in by Currys on this, at least that’s how it strikes me.

Any point in a concerned citizen reporting this to the authorities?

Na, I reckon that they’ll suss it. TBH I think that CDSL have a mini-revolt on their hands over it and the whole affair could become rather amusing.

I’ve said no, point blank refused to even trial, and 2 days later find out they are trying to give some of my CDSL area to A.N Other. Could be coincidnece as I was pushed into that area 2 years ago, and suddenly they find some one else to do it !

Cant tell yet if any of my other area has been given to anyone else yet , time will tell.
Seems to be too much of a coincidence.

What goes around comes around, we shall see what happens !

Not a pop at Alex but too many people are saying they will trial it. This just leads to them getting there own way. I have stood my ground, and it looks like I will suffer ! S**t happens !

    My reasons for no are.

Mainly use small vans ! If more than one a day on the same tech cant possible do !
Got paid more for this style of work for Currys thru NESN and didn’t have to take away !
H&S issue relating to lifting appliance on to vans !
Its 2 Jobs . 1 to install and 1 to drive it to Currys !
Admin intensive putting all the owness on us !
Woodwork on 20 year old kitchens won’t stand being put on a new machine, if it would fit ! I don’t intend to pay out for new doors left right and centre!
30 for a failure doesnt pay the wages !
80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} is integrated- even a like for like can take over an hour + removal !

I think they are reasonable reasons, obviously they don’t.

Really good contract. I dont suppose Bernard Harrisons move to connect had anything to do with it !

I hold my head in shame….

Thought about it and reached a conclusion. If I trialled it and the 1st 3 worked, then the 4th was a disaster, I would get told, “Well you done 3 without complaint, so that means 75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} to date this must be a good contract”.

I’m not taking that chance. I’ve e-mailled Kitt and Dave Parker & told them to take me off it.

See what happens now, they don’t have anyone else to cover my area, and we go into a lot of other areas doing Gas & Refrigeration.

You say no to a new edict and all of a sudden your work starts to disappear ! Now I wonder where I’ve heard that before ?

Stick to your guns lads and just hope that others sprout some balls and reject this loss leading exercise too.

Let’s face it, if there were the smallest profit in it, they would be doing it themselves.

    Glad I’m out of it.

Might be a bit of a frosty atmosphere for D.P. at the next DASA meeting 😉

    On vodka fuel…

Let’s face it CDSL are balshy ba$t$rds, they think they’ve the power to to force their will on the small guys, those beneath them. Or is that Currys? Sorry, the lines are so blurred as there’s little distinction between them, or is that the vodka offering a blurred view or reality?

I had my fill of this $h1t a long time ago and I don’t care to return to it either.

Sorry, but with the contract detail I have I have to agree with Phil, I’d tell them to find a short pier and advise a long walk and, that’s being polite about the whole affair.

It’s good though IMO it just serves to prove that UKW is still needed to expose this stuff and carry the opinion to all that will listen.

You’re better off out it Sean, as am I as I just couldn’t keep my gob shut.

Well done though Alex, at least they can’t say you didn’t try it before you told them to stick it where the sun don’t shine.

    Re: CDSL at it again

Well, I’ve had a PM from someone in Currys so they know and they know that a lot of repairers are not happy puppies. No doubt calls have been bouncing back and forwards between them and CDSL by now I should expect.

However, I don’t see why I should do free consultations for Currys to stay within the legal framework. 😉
