I will be purchasing a new washing machine and I would like to know what value the spin speed ratings have when choosing.

In particular I’m considering Bosch machines and I note a difference of approx £55 between the 1200 and 1400 speed (Exccel) models which appear to be otherwise identical in all other features. The lady from Comet suggested it was useful if you use a tumble dryer and want to further reduce the moisture content beforehand. I don’t have a tumble dryer but would like to air dry indoors during bad weather.

Does the 200 (rpm?) increase make that much of a difference then? Should I consider a higher speed to be important on my list?

    Thanks.

    Re: Value of spin speeds

The bulk of water is removed by spinning at 830 rpm, after that the quantity left to remove reduces marginally the faster you go.
The fastest spin is usually only touched on for a minute or two at the very end of the spin programme once you move into the 1100 rpm and above machines.

All a bit of a marketing tool IMO, if you are tumble drying then a faster spin might seem better but the efficiency difference of tumble driers negates this.

All AAA rated appliances will give you good results if you use it correctly, dose it correctly with detergent and the difference between 1200 and 1400 is not really a factor, IMO.

    Hope that helps
