ParticipantBosch SGS4012GB/12 FD7908 380108.
Leaks badly around sump to tub seal.
On first inspection it was apparent that the sump unit was not sitting straight at all. It looked as if it had ‘slid off’ the stainless steel tub lip. Firstly, I thought I would remove, clean and re-seat the seal. So I stripped machine, refitted the sump and tested it again. (machine was assembled upside down and the plastic base fitted to avoid the sump moving as the machine was turned upright again). Leaked just as badly and sump was sitting crooked again. 😈
So I dismantled it again and this time bonded the sump on with debor glue, left it overnight to set and tried it again. STILL LEAKED!!!! 😈 😈
The leak starts (and the movement occurs) where there is no sump clamp at the front. You cannot press the sump onto the lip too forcefully as the stainless is akin to tinfoil and bends easily. The sump clamps when tightened to limit are still quite loose and offer little support or location. It is as if the sump needs another support clamp at the front to prevent movement although there is no provision for one. 😕
Has anyone had this frustrating problem before and how did you solve it? It’s a miserable job to dismantle this dishwasher and having done it twice has meant my patience for today has evaporated. 👿
Any help gratefully received!!!Thanks,
Steve.

Are you sure this is not a salt grain hole?
Check under the large flat filter recess.October 9, 2006 at 12:24 pm #191147superfix

Check under the large flat filter recess.Agreed, I’ve never had a sump seal leak on an SGS. There has always been a small hole made by salt.
Usually as BSH-MAN said in the groove under the filter. Also remove the feeder tube and check there.

Believe me aqualectric I do sympathise with your frustration (and I concur with the views of BHS-man and boro by the way 😉 )
But oh dear! How many times do I have to read about those like you that turn these machine upside down ? What is it with the idea of turning things upside down I wonder? Do you lot eat your breakfast cornflakes standing on your head each morning just in case you have a Bosch dishwasher to fix later in the day…..? :rolls:
I do wonder sometimes you know if UK Whitegoods ought to put together a series of “Training DVD’s” on how to repair certain appliances or even download an MPEG Quicktime video for a small fee on how to change Zanussi Door Boots or Drum Bearings………?
Now there’s an idea I could make a few bob on the side I guess and it will help a few guys out in the process…..Hmmmmmmmmmm I wonder? 8)

Yep, it turned out to be a minute salt grain hole as you said, BSHman and Boro – with a very close inspection it was just visible on the side fold of the filter recess. Customer to buy a new machine.
As for Martin – well, ahem, what can I say? :con: I promise I won’t be too in – salted!! :snigger:Thanks guys!!
