Hi all. My 7-year old Bosch SGS5312 has just stopped working (no display). Removing the front panel revealed a burnt/scorched PCB (a common problem is appears having searched previous posts). My question is – is it most likely this fault originated at the PCB itself, or can a failure elsewhere cause the PCB to burn out? I’m reluctant to fit a £100 new part to see it go bang when I first switch on. The current PCB seems beyond the ‘solder repair’ mentioned in previous threads…

    Any help greatly appreciated.

I was caught out recently with intermittent short on detergent dispenser solenoid. Blows the tracks off the board. Not saying it is the same in your case but blown tracks indicate a short usually. Unplug Power if you are going to have a look yourself. And watch for gillette style razor unfinished door edges.

I’m pretty certain that replacing the Control PCB unit will cure the fault provided the heating element is fully checked out electrically (with an Insulation Meter) first!

The main reason those PCB’s burn out in the first place is they cannot effectively cope with the current that the element draws over time. (The relay pins on the circuit board overheat). So if the heater checks out OK then investing in a new board will cure all I guess! 😉

The dispenser solenoid that Simon46 refers to usually blows the microchip only. If your board is burned and charred adjacent the main heater relay you can dis-count that potential fault.
