ParticipantHi
Indesit W123 approx 5 years old.
I had the ‘clicking programme knob’ problem with our washing machine, and after reading a few advice columns I came to the conclusion that the controller should be replaced.
New one was ordered, it arrived and took about ten minutes for myself to fit it. Job done, or so I thought.
I would be grateful for some advice. After the new piece was installed the machine was fired up. It started to fill with water and then we heard click, click ,click as the knob had a quick lap around the dial area. I used the advice in the manual and this forum about resetting the controller. Nothing works now. When the programme is set and the power turned on the light comes on and gives 2 slow flashes, 3 fast then stays on continuously. This is it’s usual pattern according to my wife!
I have checked the filter thingy, which is clear of obstruction.
Is it possible that the PCB (module) has died or could it be something cheaper? Perhaps a new machine.October 13, 2006 at 10:16 pm #192161Penguin45

It lasted 5 years? Little short of miraculous…..
By controller, I take it you mean the selector/indicator unit behind the programe knob?
Pity that it doesn’t want to flash – it does mean that you will have to work your way round the machine testing the individual components for continuity – valves, motor, heater, temperature sensor, pump. If everything checks out, computer board is a distinct possibility. Prices range from £80 – £140 depending on exact model and serial number.
At 5 years old, I would be seriously tempted to check the carbon brushes in the drive motor – they are designed to wear out over time.
Stay safe, power off at all times. If you’re not sure, get pro help – click the link below for a UKW engineer in your areal.

Its begining to sound more like a project than a quick fix. Perhap a new machine is due.
Many thanks for the info. -
