ParticipantI’ve searched and found other threads on this topic, but as some have suggested, i’ve checked and the wire isn’t poking through a hole.
It’s not catching when the drum is spun by hand but with a load in and on full spin it catches a lot.
I’ve had the bottom rear panel off and undone the rubber drain hose hoping that i could reach up and get it out but i think the heating elements are in the way.
My questions for you are:
Will the wire cause major problems if left?
Is there any other way of gaining access to the outer drum?
If its an engineer job, how much would it cost?cheers

Take it out of the way?
If left, the wire (especially the, hem, “fuller” sizes) can wreak havoc. They can tear the inner drum and door seal. They can damage the heater itself. I have, on occasion seen them driven through the wafer thin plastic outer tank which Hotpoint use these days.
An independent engineer will certainly charge for an hour of his time – you should discuss this when arranging an appointment to avoid surprises. You may like to click the link below for a UKW engineer in your area.
Power off at all times if going back for another go.

i’ve gone back for another look but cannot see anyway to remove the heating elements.
take a look at this picture:
the elements are inside the blue casing about where the red line is. on the outside just above the line is a plate with the wiring to the elements but there doesn’t appear (to me) to be a way of removing them from the casing.
is turning the unit on its side and having a look at the underneath of the machine advisable? perhaps there is another access point to the outer drum?

Heater (there is only one) is designed to be removed, but not to be refitted, although you can do it with some difficulty. Before you resort to that you could try to remove one of the blue plastic drum lifters inside the drum. More often than not you can remove the obstruction from there. There is always an outside chance that the bra wire has gone behind the drum, if that is the case then a complete removal and spiltting of the outer drum is the only way to get at it.
Your machine should have the Mk 3 lifters. I will check on the removal method and get back to you as it differs from one type to another.
Jim.
NB. Put all underwired bras in on old pillowcase and secure with a couple of safety pins, or follow the washing instructions on almost all underwired bras, ‘Hand wash only’ 😉
EDIT. You need a thin terminal screwdriver, locate the third hole in, along the top edge of one of the lifters and push down with the screwdriver. You should then be able to pull the blue lifter towards the front of the drum and remove it. If you are lucky you will be able to locate and remove any obstructions. Before you refit the lifter, look into the drum and you will see a small tab in the drum that you have pushed flat, raise that back up about 3mm before you push the lifter back into place. If you have done this correctly you should hear a click as it locks back into place.

brilliant Jim! did what you said and the offending item was thankfully at the bottom of the drum.
for future reference, i did not have a terminal screwdriver in my tool box but a small-medium allen key was thin enough to fit throught the hole and long enough to push the tab.

Thanks also Jim,
I had a gel & material shoe insole stuck on the heating element at the bottom, was reasonably melted when I fished it out! followed your tip about removing the plastic lifter and recovered the insole. Thanks! great site this, often refer to it when in need of some domestic appliance advice.

Great, a BOGOF, 😆 two satisfied customers for the price of one.
Thanks for letting us know the outcome. 8)

Although it was possible to wash trainers etc in the old style, one piece stainless steel drum, it is a definate ‘must not do’ in any modern machine with plastic drum lifters.
