KeymasterDepends on the connection as it’s been quick, quick, slow here TBH. 😕
On the whole though it’s been flying recently, noticably faster with some tweaks that were made.

I thought it was my connection. Any ideas on when I’m in search and try to get back to the results the page has expired. Doesn’t happen anywhere else?

KeymasterIt’s been really weird this week TBH. I’ve had UKW flying here at home (with a faster up/down speed than Greg’s ;)) and it’s been painfully slow in the office at times. Yet when I’ve checked it with home at the same time it seems fine.
Last night I have UKW and a bunch of other regular haunts timing out whilst some site, like Google (always good for testing) worked fine. But the really weird bit was that I could FTP in and also ping the domain with no issues at all.
Never mind, not much longer to go on this tired old server. 🙄

Amazing how quick the site runs at this time of day 😀
Just wish I was back in bed though 😥 . Instead of waiting for a new hard drive for the laptop.
Guaranteed between 06:00 and 07:30.
We shall see.

KeymasterRe: Slow tonight?
Gegsy, when I was in Sean’s t’other day, using his broadband, mine was ok on the lappy whilst his PC was dead slow…… therefore not the connection.
Kevin
Sorry should explain Gegsy lives 500 yards from Sean

Hi Kev
After what you just said I have come to the conclusion it may be the Norton Firewall as Sean and I both use it 😯 I have lowered the firewall setting and it seems quicker 😀Greg

KeymasterIt’s been okay here but was terrible in the office, two different ISP’s and I asked Li to check due to that, fine there from his different ISP.
IMDB and BBC were also slow.
So, dunno.

UKW has fallen victim to its own success with the deplorable access times, double (even triple) postings and lock-outs during peak times. Now it seems these peak times have widened even more and making it virtually unworkable. 🙁
So much so that in order to post anything takes around 35 mins at the moment. Often I cannot even log-off the site so don’t even bother, so my name never dissappears off the listings (all night long!).
I’m off to watch the Man U match now, bugger it………..

KeymasterYes we are aware of the problem and there has been some work to try to resolve it as best we can. Trust me, I want it resolved more than anyone.
Your name does disappear after 30 minutes of inactivity, they all do and, whilst it’s been slow a fair bit, I’ve managed to use the site but I do acknowledge that it is far from ideal.
You are spot on in the first comment though Martin. Basically the problem is that the connection at the Texas end and the server just can’t cope with the traffic that UKW is generating. We’ve basically taken over the server and we’re now using the majority of available bandwidth as well as space and power on the server.
Work is ongoing with the new server but there are some issues with the upgrades that are taking place at the same time, this is what is causing the delay as we need to have it all tested before flicking the switch.
And oh how I look forward to that moment.
