In a press release this evening Comet has announced it has entered into a consultation process with some of its office-based workforce.
The period of consultation will now begin with around 280 staff in office-based roles across the UK, with a view to making redundancies.
Comet currently employs around 1,600 head office and service centre staff. Today’s announcement will see a consolidation of Comet’s head office functions, as well as the closure of four of the company’s 18 Service Centres.
Comet is liaising with employee representatives throughout the consultation process to ensure all staff are kept fully informed of developments at each and every stage.
Managing Director, Hugh Harvey, said: “This is a difficult but necessary step in the management of the business. It is going to be more important than ever that Comet manages its costs effectively while retaining its commitment to customer service”.
