An absent minded customer left the sink plug in and was filling the sink when the doorbell rang. She chatted briefly to the person at the door then went upstairs, having completely forgetting the sink was filling up all the while!

3 hours later………….she went downstairs only to find the ground floor awash! 😯

That was just the start of her problems but to cut a very long, sad story short, the upshot was that the whole kitchen had to be refurnished, new flooring etc. All done through her insurance company, who in fact called me for a quote for disconnecting 3 appliances, and removing them away from the kitchen to allow Allied Carpets to lay new flooring. Once the new flooring was laid I then had to return and refit all 3 appliances in their respective slots.

I quoted the insurance company £110 total for the 2 visits. They accepted and arranged that the customer pay me after each visit (£55 a go) by credit card. I called 3 weeks back to disconnect the appliances, Allied Carpets were due to call sometime the next day to fit the flooring, I was to return the day after and fit the machines back in….simple! :rolls:

Allied Carpets didn’t turn up (apparently their fitter had chopped his finger off and was at A&E having treatment) 😯

I called the next day and put the machines back, copped another £55. 2 days later the lady asks me to call again as Allied were calling on the 23rd. I asked if a 3 & 4th visit would be agreed by her Insurance Co? She said yes, I went along, took the machine out again, copped another £55. Arranged to call today to fit them back, she said yes but Allied still haven’t fitted the flooring. So I went back today to refit the machines, copped another £55… (£220 so far and counting…. 🙂 – very handy)

Allied Carpets did call this time but unfortunately came with the wrong floor covering and have re-booked to call again next Tuesday 😕

So I’m booked top call back on Monday next week to remove machines for the 3rd time and call back on Friday to put them back (another £110 guaranteed)

I guess I just got lucky on this job and have learnt now from experience to always advise Allied Carpets when it comes to kitchen flooring!!

“They won’t make a drama out of a crisis!” :rotfl:

So who’s actually stumping up all this monopoly money?

As in who’s refunding the customer?

It is to be hoped (for her sake at least) her insurance company? Each visit I made (so far at least) was sanctioned by them and presumably when I return to complete the farcical episode they will recompense her in full?

…….. “so we ‘ad a cuppa tea……!” :rolling:

I’m not sure what you mean by that in fact? Why should I be brought into question here pray tell?

Sorry Martin, I don’t mean to be critical of you (or anyone else!) for taking the easy money. 😳
It’s just that sometimes me old morals and ethics kick in when I see or hear about what could be construed as an exploitative situation. 🙁
But I suppose nowadays we shouldn’t be too ‘fussy’ about where the financial gains derive from. 😉
Apologies if my initial light hearted intentions got slightly warped!
    All the best,
    Gert.

I’m not exploiting anyone Gertrude, just going about my honest and forthright business, doing what was requested of me by the persons involved. As no doubt you would do given the exact same circumstances. Perhaps my lighthearted translation of the situation was taken a little out of context by you in thinking that I was merely exploiting the circumstances? I can assure you (to use a well coined phrase here) I am…..

    “…just doing my job!”

Apology accepted!….. My humour is a little “warped” sometimes so no worries Gert ….honest 8)

Here here!….besides which, knowing insurance companies as I do, they will probably go after the carpet company who are responsible for the farce by breaking their agreed appointments.

I’m now of the oppinion that if you can get money out of an insurance company, (especially any that are part of the RBS group, such as Directline) then go for it. I can’t stand them. ripped me off good and propper and i’m still rebuilding the house and will be paying the costs off till retirement.

As long as the insurance are paying, then there’s no need to feel guilty.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t pay. Sounds like she’s being wreckless in paying Martin all those call outs. According to Martin, “.. Allied Carpets were due to call sometime the next day to fit the flooring, I was to return the day after and fit the machines back in….simple!”

So why didn’t she phone up, apologise, and cancel? Why let him come out knowing the carpets haven’t been fitted? If I was insurance company I wouldn’t pay more than the agreed 2 call outs.

The floor was laid by Allied on the 31st (looks nice!) and I fitted the machines back in place on the 3rd. All paid up for my services (£330 in total) customer very happy…..! 8)

It pays to be insured, don’t it just! 😆

I’ve had another one since by the way, country cottage 18 inches of water in kitchen….hell of a mess….all quoted up to do the work when the bits come in stock…nice job, wads of dosh…

    …..and a cuppa tea I expect…. 😉
