ParticipantMy WDJ1285 has started to wash very poorly and I have noticed that the wash cycles seem to be over faster than normal. The ‘Quick wash’ button is not pressed and I have checked with a meter that the switch has not failed. Any suggestions please ? Many thanks.

unplug appliance and lean back at 45 degrees,at the rear of the motor is a round piece called a tacho unit if this has become loose or detached the m/c will either jump all over the place or quicken the wash times,if this part cannot be put back on, you may have to replace as a kit or complete motor,an engineer in your area may be your best bet!

Nooooo, Bendy – that’s drum speed, not programme time.
Possibilities: Timing out problems on fill, heat or drain can cause the computer to abort the programme and advance to the end. Motor not running at all is a fault, no speed control (What Bendy said) is a fault, but the machine simply gives up trying to operate the motor – programme will normally “hang”.
Bonkers computer board – advance components can fail in the open position and drive the timing unit round to the end position. Faulty timer units can do this on their own.
It is a technically complex appliance and there are numerous variables which can produce this problem. Time for pro help – click the link below for a UKW engineer in your area.

Thanks everyone, perhaps after 14 years and four children it’s time for a new machine. I think I’ve had my money’s worth out of the old Zanussi.

Before you bin it Alexis, there is something you can check yourself.
Presumably you use the same program all the time, usally 40 degrees? – it may me a dud thermostat, your machine has a mechanical timer and a couple of thermostats mounted in different locations, if one fails it can skip the heating phase at the beginning of the wash which makes the cycle much faster. Simple way of testing is to try the machine on all the other temperature settings to see if they heat.
